Help the cats without spending a dime

In homes around the country, there’s a little stash of travel money. A few euros in a coat pocket. Pesos in a kitchen drawer. Coins and bills from a trip you took years ago.

Right now, that money isn’t doing anything.

This holiday season, it can treat a cat in need.

We are known for helping cats who need some extra help.

Cats like Zen, an 8-year-old calico with quite the personality who needed time to find the right person for her. She wouldn’t just accept anyone, and she needed patience, something many shelters cannot afford.

Or Velcro, our lovable, very affectionate black cat who came in with chronic kidney issues and an upper respiratory infection that took months to get under control.

Cats like Zen and Velcro are why we’re launching the Foreign Currency Challenge.

And we need your help.

How it works

  1. Sign up below to become an official Currency Collector.

  2. Print your jar label or make your own and stick it on any jar, tin or box.

  3. Collect leftover foreign coins and bills from friends and family at Thanksgiving, holiday parties and New Year’s gatherings. Of course, we won’t say no to US dollars as well!

  4. Drop off your collection by or before January 9th at our shelter from 1pm to 4pm, or mail it to us at: 180 Sturbridge Road (Rte 20), P.O. Box 557, Brimfield, MA 01010.

We’ll convert everything to US dollars through our currency partner. Every bit goes toward food, litter, and veterinary care for the cats in our care.

How points work

We want counting to be quick and fair, so we score coins by weight and bills by count:

  • Coins: 1 point per 100 g

  • Bills: 1 point each, any currency

  • Photo bonus: 5 points if you share a photo with your jar and tag us!

Absolutely all currencies are accepted. Expired or old currencies no longer in circulation are also accepted.

Why this matters

Times are hard for many families right now. We never want anyone to feel they can’t help because money is tight.

This challenge lets you make a real difference using money that’s already sitting in a drawer. All it takes is a jar and a little holiday conversation.

Join the Foreign Currency Competition

Let's put that leftover currency to good use.

By signing up, we will send you creative ideas, reminders and inspiration to support you during the challenge.

Thank you for choosing to support our cats!
